Kendra Merchant has joined the firm as a transactional associate. Kendra focuses her practice in the area of taxation, offering strategic advice on federal and state income tax matters. Previously, Kendra worked at a national law firm in Washington, D.C.
Kendra has significant experience structuring domestic and international mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, and reorganizations, guiding individuals and entities in matters related to achieving short and long term business goals in a tax-efficient manner, and negotiating and drafting contractual terms affecting tax matters in complex business deals.
Kendra also has extensive experience counseling tax-exempt organizations on matters related to obtaining and retaining tax exempt status, nonprofit governance, and operations. In addition, Kendra provides Opportunity Zone guidance at the fund, operating business, and investor level, and offers advice to international taxpayers on compliance and planning opportunities under U.S. tax law.
Outside of the office, Kendra is usually outside enjoying the sunshine, live music, and the company of her two dogs. Kendra is also a proud member of the Mardi Gras Krewe of Iris and the Krewe of Red Beans.
