In commemoration of its centennial year, Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer has donated the funds necessary to build a replica of the naval “truck”, also known as a garrison carriage, that once cradled a late 18th century cannon that stands guard in the Cabildo’s arcade. The 5,789 pound cannon was part of the defensive armaments at Fort Saint John (known as Spanish Fort) during the Battle of New Orleans in 1815.
The Louisiana State Museum (LSM) has launched this project in anticipation of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans, which will take place on January 8, 2015.
On September 30th, 2014 a press conference, check presentation and reception was hosted by the firm at the Cabildo to unveil the cannon carriage and to recognize our firm’s commitment to our city and its history.
