Scott L. Sternberg

Scott Sternberg joined Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer in 2010, where he focuses on helping clients solve problems efficiently. His practice involves general civil litigation, business and start-up matters, real estate litigation and admiralty and maritime. He also represents clients and political candidates before the Louisiana Board of Ethics and other governmental entities in administrative and legislative matters. Scott maintains a First Amendment practice and regularly represents individuals and media outlets in public records, open meetings and other media law issues. He is regularly quoted in the local media and is an author and speaker on topics related to public access, ethics and First Amendment issues. Since 2013, he has been recognized as one of New Orleans Magazine’s “Top Lawyers of New Orleans” in Communications Law, First Amendment Law and On-Air Media Legal Analyst, and has also been recognized by Louisiana Super Lawyers as a “Rising Star”. Most recently, Scott was selected as one of Gambit’s 40 Under 40, a list published to showcase local under-age-40, “movers and shakers, business geniuses, do-gooders, people with talent and those doing exceptional things.”

Scott received his Juris Doctor and Diploma in Civil Law cum laude from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center, where he was a member of the Louisiana Law Review, selected for the Moot Court Board and elected President of the Student Bar Association. He received his bachelor’s degree in Journalism from LSU in 2006, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Reveille. He has also worked in Washington, D.C. and as a freelance journalist. Scott is a former elected student-member of the LSU System Board of Supervisors and serves on the LSU Law Chancellor’s Young Alumni Leadership Council. Scott is an active member of several community and alumni groups, including the Young Leadership Council of Greater New Orleans, where he serves on the Board of Directors. Scott regularly teaches a class on the First Amendment at Loyola University and has taught Media Law at LSU.

Scott was a member of the Meritas Leadership Institute class of 2014, which brought together a group of young lawyers to examine client expectations of the 21st century lawyer. Scott presented on that topic at a national meeting of Meritas, an international network of law firms to which the firm belongs.

When Scott isn’t working, teaching or writing, he spends time with his wife and son, or can be found aiming for the highest possible score on the golf course. He enjoys LSU sports, the Saints, the Pelicans and Louisiana politics.
